How much does dryer vent cleaning cost?

Dryer vent cleaning costs $129 for a side-by-side washer and dryer and $179 for a stackable or closet unit. The price covers the transition duct behind the dryer, the full run through the wall or roof to the exterior hood, clearing the hood flap, reconnecting the dryer and checking airflow.

Lint that gets past the screen collects in the duct behind the dryer and in every elbow between there and the outside wall. Once the run narrows, the dryer runs hotter and longer. We disconnect the dryer, run a rotary brush the whole length while the vacuum pulls, clear the exterior hood, then reconnect and confirm air is moving out the termination.

Bay Area homes vent dryers in three ways: a short run straight through an exterior wall, a long run through the attic or crawlspace to the roof, or a run across a garage ceiling. Long roof runs in two-story homes and condos are where we find the worst blockages. Stackable units sit in closets with almost no room behind them, which is why they cost a bit more.

What's not

  • Dryer repair. If the dryer heats poorly with a clean vent, the problem is in the appliance.
  • Rerouting or replacing the duct run. We will tell you if the run is foil-flex, crushed or too long, and what a fix would take.
  • Bird guards and new exterior hoods. We can quote a replacement hood on site.
  • Runs we cannot reach: some roof terminations on steep or tile roofs need a roofer.

Process

How the visit goes

  1. 01

    Find both ends

    We locate where the dryer connects and where the run terminates outside, then note elbows, length and duct material.

  2. 02

    Pull and disconnect

    The dryer comes out, the transition duct comes off, and we vacuum the outlet and the wall connection.

  3. 03

    Brush the full run

    A rotary brush on flexible rods goes the whole length while the vacuum pulls from the other end.

  4. 04

    Clear the termination

    The exterior hood or roof cap gets opened and cleared. Stuck flaps get freed.

  5. 05

    Reconnect and test

    Dryer goes back with the transition sealed. We run it and check airflow at the outside hood.

How much does dryer vent cleaning cost?
Dryer vent cleaning costs $129 for a side-by-side washer and dryer and $179 for a stackable or closet unit. Both prices cover the full run from the dryer outlet to the exterior hood, clearing the hood, reconnecting the dryer and an airflow check. There is no extra charge for long runs or roof terminations we can reach.
How long does dryer vent cleaning take?
About 45 to 75 minutes. Short wall runs are done in under an hour. Long attic runs to the roof, or stackable units in tight closets, take closer to 90 minutes.
How often should a dryer vent be cleaned?
Once a year for a family that runs the dryer most days, every two years for light use. Long runs with several elbows and any home with a roof termination should stay on the yearly schedule.
Why does a stackable unit cost more?
Stackables sit in closets with a few inches of clearance. Pulling the unit out safely, reaching the transition duct, and reseating it takes about twice the handling time of a side-by-side, so we charge $179 instead of $129.
Can a clogged dryer vent cause a fire?
Yes. Lint is flammable and the heating element is right next to where it collects. Dryer fires are a well-documented cause of house fires, and a blocked vent is the usual reason. Cleaning the run removes the fuel.
My dryer still takes forever after cleaning. Why?
If we cleaned the run and confirmed airflow at the hood, the remaining problem is inside the dryer: a failing heating element, a worn blower wheel or a blocked internal lint path. That is an appliance repair, and we will tell you so at the visit rather than charge for a second cleaning.
Do you replace the foil duct behind the dryer?
We reconnect the existing transition duct if it is in good condition. If it is crushed, torn or the thin foil accordion type, we will tell you and can install a replacement for the cost of the part.
Do you clean dryer vents in apartments and condos?
Yes. Condo runs are often the longest in the Bay Area because the vent has to reach a roof or a shared wall. We coordinate with your HOA if roof access is needed.
