Original Los Altos ranches vent the dryer through the garage wall in a short run. The rebuilds put laundry rooms on the second floor, and the run to the roof can exceed 30 feet with several elbows. Those are the dryers that take two cycles and they should be cleaned yearly.

Lint that gets past the screen collects in the duct behind the dryer and in every elbow between there and the outside wall. Once the run narrows, the dryer runs hotter and longer. We disconnect the dryer, run a rotary brush the whole length while the vacuum pulls, clear the exterior hood, then reconnect and confirm air is moving out the termination.
