The Eichler tracts in South Palo Alto have short runs under a flat roof with a cap that sticks. Old Palo Alto bathrooms with a retrofit fan sometimes vent into the attic or a soffit rather than outside, and we tell you when we find that.

A bathroom fan moves a small amount of air through a small duct, so it does not take much to stop it. Dust and lint build a felt on the blower wheel, the motor slows, the duct to the roof narrows, and the mirror stays fogged after every shower. We take the grille down, clean the wheel and housing by hand and with the vacuum, clear the duct from the fan end and the cap end where we can reach them, and put it back together running.
