Eichler fireplaces are a Sunnyvale specialty: often a brick or concrete-block firebox with a short metal flue that exits a flat roof, and a cap that takes the weather. The ranch-tract chimneys are conventional masonry that has usually gone decades without a sweep.

Creosote is what wood smoke leaves on the inside of a flue, and enough of it will burn. We seal the fireplace opening, run rotary brushes up the flue from the bottom with a vacuum on the firebox, then clean the smoke shelf and damper where the heaviest deposits settle. You see what came down.

We do a visual check of the firebox, flue interior and cap where we can reach them, and we tell you plainly what we see. We do not run a camera, so for a real estate transaction or a suspected crack you need a Level 2 inspection from a chimney inspector.
